Are C.K. Women Your Thing?
This recent controversy about “plus-size models” at Calvin Klein, begs the question: Are Americans still as attracted to rail thin women?
They might be, especially if you’re wealthy. Finding someone who is only physically attracted to women with zero fat on their bodies is about as rare as finding someone who has a high paying and completely stable job.
Studies have shown an inverse correlation between the preference for “plump” body parts in women, and economic success. Take a look at this article from Today.com, published in May of 2014, about our preferences for body types. More financially stable social strata preferred thinner body types, while more economically depressed strata preferred the opposite. From an evolutionary standpoint, this suggests that in times of scarcity, we are more likely to prefer biological traits which are likely to produce offspring able to weather hard times.
The question is:
Is Calvin Klein’s adaption of a slightly more robust figure, only their response to a financially shaky period for the US?
